March 14, 2011 Bengaluru, India

The first thing I noticed as soon as we left the Bengaluru International Airport was a distinct smell. Not a bad smell, mind you but a distinct acridicity to the air. By the time we left 3 weeks later, I didn't even notice it anymore. This is the first Tuk Tuk I've ever ridden in and it was as much fun as it was harrowing.

Our Tuk Tuk driver getting us ready for the days exploration of Bengaluru
We stayed in a wonderful little oasis in the big and bustling city of Bengaluru called Casa Cottage, near Johnson Market in the Richmond area( how fitting).

Very quaint, outdoor tea and snacks and very friendly

  1. I am not trying to shoot you down but you need to be corrected, since you started this blog and it is public, not private!
"Kovalum is a quaint little village which has started to come of age." It's a very famous name. First I thought, its typo but you carried on through out the blog, it's - KOVALAM and it's Kerala's most developed beach resort. It's not a village by any standard.Europeans have been visiting since the 1930s. It consist 3 beaches - 1. Kovalam Beach, 2. Hawah Beach, 3. Lighthouse Beach.
Europeans & Americans generalized & categorize every thing to their likings and being an american it is one my pet peeve. So please, there is no Coconut palm. In Kovalam and through S. India it's all Coconut. Palm trees are lot shorter and its greener on top from where the leaves fan out. Sorry, for being so blatant. Myself a traveller and comes from a traveler's family, hate to see somebody misconstrue the facts & beauty of
    the place.
I am 39 years old, I have been to India for as little as only 8 times and stayed for 6 weeks each time and it's not enough. Planning this October for 4 months. Overall good blog and nice pictures. If you don't mind me asking, is it your first time visiting India and did you stay with an Indian family?
    Thanks for sharing.
    Sincerely - Kay Smith

  2. Hi Michael - it's me again:) Totally forgot to mention about one more beach in Kovalam, towards North. " Samudra Beach ", it's very small, especially during high tides you can't see from far. There's few resorts, which is only access by a traditional " Kettumaran" ( kettu means tied & maran means logs in native language Malaylam), which gave the " Catamaran" its name.
The beach comes alive at night and has a very tiny temple.

    Thanks.
